Spring Harvest 2009!

The week before Easter, 4th-9th April, was a very anticipated time for the over 16s in our group, along with other members of the church, as it was time for our journey to Skegness! For many of us, it was going to be our first time at Spring Harvest ( a Christian event involving Bible teaching, seminars and worship), and the excitement had been building for quite a while.

After a long drive with a few minor complications ( including losing Dale’s car from the convoy!), we arrived at Skegness Butlins, ready to explore what God had in store for us.

The theme of this year’s event was Apprentice: walking the way of Christ. It focused on how we can all learn to be apprentices, to be true disciples of Jesus, and how to implement this in our everyday lives.

Topics of the seminars included, ‘How to read the Bible’- this may sound simple, but actually it was very valuable to learn about how context and culture can shape how we interpret the Bible. ‘Leadership Development’ was also a popular session within our group, where we learnt about the qualities of good leadership, and also how to be a humble leader. The university students amongst us found their way to the ‘Love your uni’ seminar, to think about how they can be active Christians at their universities. Overall, the seminars were interesting and gave us a lot to consider.

Worship at Spring Harvest

Our main worship leader for the Big Top Celebrations was Mark Beswick, who really ensured that the music and songs were giving praise and glory to God. Worshipping with so many people was a truly amazing experience.

Mark also led the ‘New Songs Workshop’ where we had the chance to go through and sing new songs to become more familiar with them. It was a great way to slow down and think about the words we were singing, and what they meant to us. This then made the evening celebrations even better, because we were more confident with the songs. A firm favourite within our group was ‘Hosanna (I See The King Of Glory)’.

An alternative to the Big Top Celebrations was iScape Celebration, specifically aimed at teenagers and students. Here the worship was lead by Mark Tedder and his band. Having the choice of different styles of worship was refreshing as there was always various ways of praising God.
